日本センチュリー交響楽団（旧大阪センチュリー交響楽団）は、1989年に活動を開始した。初代常任指揮者はウリエル・セガル（現名誉指揮者）が、1997年4月からは高関健が常任指揮者を務めた。2003年4月から首席指揮者に小泉和裕を迎えるとともに定期演奏会は2005年4月に100回を数えた。2008年4月からは小泉和裕を音楽監督に、沼尻竜典を首席客演指揮者に迎え、創立20周年となる2009年度には両指揮者による記念公演を行った。2011年4月、名称を日本センチュリー交響楽団に変更し新たなスタートを切った。

創立以来、アンサンブルの緻密さ、古典から現代作品に至るまで柔軟かつ高い演奏能力に評価を得てきた。大阪での定期演奏会をはじめ、近年ではさまざまな地域でも特別演奏会を行っている。その他にも「タッチ・ジ・オーケストラ（青少年のためのオーケストラ体感コンサート）」、特別支援学校コンサート、病院での室内楽コンサートなどセンチュリーならではの多彩な活動、また、センチュリー・ユースオーケストラの運営、大学からのインターンシップ生の受入れや中学生の職業体験授業など教育プログラムにも力を入れている。

「優れた演奏により地域の力を発信する」「オーケストラによる感動と癒しを提供する」「優れた才能の発掘を次世代の育成に寄与する」「国際相互理解や平和に積極的に貢献する」の4つの理念をもとに、演奏を通して多くの人びとの心に明るい夢が広がることを願い、新しい時代のオーケストラとして発展を目指している。

The Japan Century Symphony Orchestra was established in December 1989 as the Century Orchestra Osaka under its first chief conductor, Uriel Segal, with the aim of providing the people of Osaka Prefecture an orchestra they could be proud of.

The 55-member orchestra, twin wind-10 section formation, is highly skilled at playing Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and classical music, but has recently been performing more modern pieces too.

Uriel Segal was appointed chief conductor from 1989 to 1997, Ken Takaseki from 1997 to 2003, Kazuhiro Koizumi as principal conductor from 2003 to 2008.

The orchestra invited Kazuhiro Koizumi as music director, Ryusuke Numajiri as principal guest conductor from 2008 April and could make a new start.

In April 2011 the orchestra took the current name and has developed its performance not only in Osaka but also the whole of Japan and through the world.

Besides holding subscription and special concerts, the orchestra actively promotes music appreciation classes aimed at refining the sensibilities of the younger generation, who will be tomorrow's leaders.

Our aim is to provide not only classical music but music that stirs the soul of every person so that the general public will come to know the joy of listening to great music and attending wonderful concerts. We hope to provide more opportunity for all to come into close contact with music in their daily lives.

We are dedicated to fulfilling our mission to become an orchestra that is loved and respected by not only classical music lovers but also all the people in every walk of life.
